Refresh Car Detailing on Shark Tank AU

Refresh Car Detailing featured on the hit TV Show, Shark Tank on June 26th 2018.

Harrison Lingard Shark Tank

Harrison, showcased our Car Detailing business to the world to the best of his ability in the super quick time frame Shark Tank allows.

We caught up with Harrison quickly and asked him a couple questions:

What was it like being on TV? "I was a tad frazzled initially waiting for it to air in WA. The huge amount of traffic from when it went to air over east actually crashed our Instagram feed on our website so I was racing to fix that! There was only one confused reaction when they asked me a (dumb) question, that they edited in place for effect. Andrew Banks was definitely the most genuine of the five, and I hope I cross paths with him in the future.

I was nervous about the Shark Tank Producers editing me bad, but I think all in all it was a great display, and hopefully put car detailing on the map!"

What's the biggest thing you learnt from the Shark Tank experience?

"Shark Tank taught me my numbers. I studied the business for months leading up to the show to truly understand the metrics of what we were doing. This was one of the most valuable things I've done to date, because the numbers don't lie. On air they didn't show any of the deeper figures to validate the investment figures, but if I was given more than 90 seconds to pitch Refresh, perhaps they could have understood the direction. I encourage every small business, no matter what type, to take a step back and analyse what's going on."

Why was Steve Baxter out because of the technology?

"I think his comments made him look rather naive and privileged. In today's modern workplace, outsourcing is becoming more and more mainstream. If you need anything, you do it over the phone or Skype. Sometimes you go to them, or they come to you.

If 95% of the time you're chatting over the phone or on Skype and they are 1km away, they may as well be 10,000km away!

Australian app development only represents a couple percent of world app development. It's like living in Canada, and trying to find someone to make you a didgeridoo, then paying top dollar for it, when you could get the boys in Australia to express freight one to you. I guarantee Steve has used overseas developers at some stage or, was fortunate to have excess cash to burn. My options were, outsource and start the business, or don't start the business."

This was one of the most valuable things I've done to date, because the numbers don't lie. On air they didn't show any of the deeper figures to validate the investment figures, and it was tricky to pitch them within 90 seconds to the shark, but perhaps if I had more time they could have understood the direction better. I encourage every small business, no matter what type, to take a step back and analyse what's going on."

What's happening after Shark Tank?

"The moment I finished filming, my mind was racing with ideas. On the flight home to Perth, I created the mother of all Car Detailing business plans.

I've been expanding the business rapidly and hit every target since. A number of investors came forward when it aired and I'm still working with them now.

I can't disclose too much, but... watch this space!"
